THE OPPORTUNITY

As a Staff Software Engineer on Hinge Health’s Service Enablement team, you will build the platforms, services, and engineering practices that other teams at Hinge Health rely on to ship software safely and quickly.

Service Enablement treats Hinge Health engineers as its customers. The team builds paved roads, automation, and platform capabilities in developer experience, cloud and service platforms, reliability, observability, security, CI/CD, and AI/ML enablement. The goal is to remove friction, improve operational maturity, and make the default path the easiest one for product and infrastructure teams.

This is a hands-on Staff Engineer role. You will write production code, lead architecture and design reviews, participate in operational response, and coach engineers toward stronger technical ownership. Expect to turn broad engineering needs into technical strategy, lead initiatives that span several teams, and set standards that get adopted beyond your own pod.

You will work closely with Engineering, Product, Security, Data, ML, and Infrastructure to balance delivery speed against reliability, security, cost, and maintainability. As Hinge Health expands its use of AI across the software development lifecycle and the care platform, you will also help make those AI and ML workloads reliable, cost efficient, and responsibly run.

The problems in this role are foundational. Fixing them makes every engineering team at Hinge Health more effective, and the software they ship helps make healthcare more accessible and affordable.

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

• Own a multi-quarter technical roadmap for one or more Service Enablement domains, based on what internal engineering teams actually need.

• Lead architecture and design for highly available, secure, and maintainable platforms and services that cross pod boundaries.

• Build and maintain paved roads for service development, deployment, observability, reliability, and operational ownership.

• Improve developer productivity with automation, reusable frameworks, self-service workflows, and documentation that people can follow.

• Set practical standards for SLOs, alerting, incident response, capacity management, service ownership, and production readiness.

• Work with product and engineering teams to run AI and ML workloads reliably and cost efficiently, including inference systems where they make sense.

• De-risk ambiguous problems with prototypes, spikes, and experiments that produce measurable results.

• Write and lead RFCs, design reviews, and technical decision records. Explain trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Take part in production operations and eliminate recurring failure modes with systemic fixes.

• Deliver large initiatives from strategy through production adoption, and measure the result: platform adoption, developer productivity, reliability, cost, or reduced operational toil.

• Mentor engineers, coach senior engineers into broader technical leadership, help with hiring, and raise the bar for engineering practice across the organization.

HINGE HEALTH HYBRID MODEL

We believe that remote work and in-person work have their own advantages and disadvantages, and we want to be able to leverage the best of both worlds. Employees in hybrid roles are required to be in the office 3 days/week.

This is a Bengaluru-based role that involves regular interaction and collaboration with Hinge Health colleagues in San Francisco, CA.

• Time zones: San Francisco is in the Pacific Time Zone, which is 12 hours and 30 minutes behind India Standard Time (e.g., 8am in San Francisco is 8:30pm in Bengaluru).

• Hours: Applicants should be open to meetings in the late evening following India Standard Time to align with San Francisco working hours (8:30 pm - 10:30pm IST).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field

• 10+ years of professional software development, or equivalent depth building and operating production systems.

• 4+ years with at least one modern programming language such as TypeScript/JavaScript,Go, Python.

• 4+ years across the full software development lifecycle: design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production operations.

• 4+years of experience in cloud infrastructure and containerized workloads such as AWS, Kubernetes, or EKS.

• Experience in software design and distributed systems fundamentals: reliability, scalability, performance, failure modes, and API or platform contracts.

• Experience operating production systems, including observability, incident response, root cause analysis, and reliability improvement.

• Experience treating internal platforms and developer experience as products, with attention to usability, adoption, and measurable outcomes.

• Experience with using AI tools such as Github copilot, Cursor, Claude etc

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience building internal developer platforms, service templates, golden paths, CI/CD systems, or self-service infrastructure.

• Experience with platform security, identity and access management, compliance controls, or secure-by-default engineering.

• Experience supporting AI/ML teams with inference infrastructure, model serving platforms, evaluation workflows, or cost and performance optimization.

• Experience defining and maintaining SLOs and SLAs, using error budgets, service-health metrics, alerting, on-call practices, incident response, and root-cause analysis to improve reliability.

• Experience with event-driven systems, workflow orchestration, service networking, or large-scale data and messaging infrastructure.

• Experience defining platform metrics such as adoption, deployment lead time, change failure rate, availability, developer satisfaction, or operational toil.

• Experience mentoring senior engineers or acting as technical lead for a platform migration, modernization effort, or organization-wide launch.

• Experience working in healthcare, privacy-sensitive, regulated, or otherwise high-trust environments.
