Position Overview

We're looking for a Product Manager to own the in-store experience at Scotch — the Android point-of-sale terminal our merchants use to ring up every sale. It's the part of our product customers touch every day, and it's where we're most visibly right or wrong.

This is a hands-on role with real autonomy. You'll own the terminal end-to-end: spending time in stores watching people use it, setting direction for what we build, and working with engineering to ship it. You'll be the person who knows how the device actually behaves in a busy store on a Friday night, not just how it behaves in a demo.

We're a small product org. That means you'll make calls without a committee, and you'll be accountable for the ones that turn out wrong. You won't be setting strategy alone — but you'll have a real hand in shaping it, and the closest view of the customer of anyone in the room.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the roadmap for our point-of-sale app. Shape the direction for the register experience with us, turn it into a sequence of releases, and defend the tradeoffs to people who'd rather ship something else.

• Prioritize across merchant escalations, platform work, and the long-horizon bets that never feel urgent. Partner closely with engineering on scoping and sequencing, including the parts where the right answer is "not yet."

• Spend real time in stores with merchants and their staff. Learn what they need, what they actually do, and where those two differ, and bring back things nobody would have found in a ticket.

• Translate messy, conflicting merchant input into a clear direction, and hold that direction when the inputs keep changing. Write requirements that describe the problem and the outcome, not the implementation.

• Make sure the app holds up in a real store: the peripherals it talks to, the network it doesn't always have, and the pace it has to keep up with.

• Own releases end to end. Decide what ships and what waits, how it rolls out, and who needs to know before it lands. Own the response when something goes wrong on a device that's already sitting on a counter.

• Serve as the product point of contact for support, onboarding, and go-to-market on anything happening at the register. That includes writing the release notes that keep those teams ahead of what's shipping, and eventually getting them in front of merchants too.

• Define what success looks like before we build, then go look. Instrument the work, watch adoption, and say plainly when something didn't land.

• Raise the bar around you on how we write, how we decide, and how we talk to merchants.

Qualifications & Skills

• 5+ years of product management experience.

• Experience owning a native mobile app as a product surface, heavily preferred. That means setting a release cadence, rolling changes out to devices already in use, and deciding what to do when a version in the field is broken.

• Our app deploys to managed devices, not through an app store, so fleet or MDM experience matters more here than consumer app publishing. This is the hardest skill on this list for us to teach.

• A track record of being the only person accountable for a decision, with no one reviewing your work before it shipped. This matters more to us than company size or whether you've worked at a startup.

• A consistent habit of direct customer contact. You've sat with users, watched them work, and changed your mind because of what you saw. In this role, that happens in person at merchants' stores, not over video calls.

• Sound judgment you can explain. You can walk through a call you got wrong, ideally one you caught yourself before anyone pointed it out.

• Experience running several workstreams at once and making the tradeoffs between them yourself, not only executing on priorities someone else set.

• Clear communication for different audiences. You can write a spec an engineer can build from, then explain the same decision to a merchant, a support lead, and an executive.

Nice to Haves

• Experience with hardware, peripherals, or devices deployed in the field — printers, scanners, card readers, or anything that fails in ways software alone doesn't

• Products built for environments where the user is busy, interrupted, and has a customer waiting

• Retail or point-of-sale background, particularly with independent or small-format merchants

• Payments experience — tender types, reconciliation, or dual pricing

• Fluency with AI tools in your daily workflow

Compensation & Benefits

• Compensation: The anticipated base salary range for this position is $150,000–$170,000. Individual offers are based on a variety of factors, including experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity.
